The Mini Game Jam returns again after being a great success in previous years and it’s even bigger this year! The Mini Game Jam is a series of game jam events aimed at kids, shortened to fit into one school day. Primary school children (in P6 and P7) come together at their local secondary school and are put together in teams to create a game using Scratch throughout the day. Just like at any game jam, they are given a theme at the start of the day around which all game projects will be based. This is a great opportunity for children to work together and learn about the craft of making games, highlighting the varied and rewarding career opportunities in this medium.
What started off 4 years ago as an event involving 50 children across 2 schools has now grown to welcome 500 children across 30 schools! It’s fantastic to see the event grow so much year on year. This year the event will run from the 25th of April through until the 2nd of June.
The dates are as follows:
- 25th April Hillpark Secondary
- 26th April St Pauls Secondary
- 27th Shawlands Academy
- 28th April Whitehill Secondary
- 3rd May Hyndland Secondary
- 4th May Rosshall Academy
- 9th May St Thomas Aquinas Secondary
- 10th May Holyrood Secondary
- 18th May Smithycroft Secondary
- 2nd June Hillhead Secondary
The Mini Game Jam is looking for volunteers to help out at the events. You can find out more information and sign up here if you’re interested and available to help.
The event is also looking for speakers – if you’re free to do a quick 15-20 min talk at 2pm on any of the dates above, please contact Amanda Wilson.
